Sergio Perez has signed a multi-year contract extension with Cadillac, locking in his future with the team ahead of his home race in Mexico. The agreement was completed in time to be announced before one of the most meaningful weekends of his season.

The timing matters because Perez, 36, is set to make his 300th F1 start in Mexico, where the crowd will see a driver who has already won six races and stood on the podium 39 times. For Cadillac, the deal brings stability with a proven name as it continues to build in Formula 1, and for Perez it gives shape to what comes next after a year on the sidelines following a difficult split with Red Bull.

Perez returned to Formula 1 this year as part of Cadillac's debut season in the championship, and the team had initially built his deal around options over their future together from 2027 onwards. Instead of waiting to trigger one of those paths, Cadillac chose to open new contract talks and settle on an extension now, a sign that it wanted certainty around a driver it believes can help guide the project forward.

That confidence has come even as Perez's pace has been harder to judge from final Grand Prix classifications, with Cadillac spending much of its debut campaign towards the back of the pack. The numbers he brings are clear enough, though, and Perez has said he considers himself one of the best drivers in F1 right now. The extension could keep him with Cadillac well into his 40s, turning this deal into more than a short-term answer to one race weekend.

For Perez, the home race is now doing double duty: it marks a milestone start and a fresh commitment to a team still finding its place. For Cadillac, the message is simpler. It has decided that Perez is part of the foundation, not just a stopgap while the rest of the project comes together.
