A shooting early Tuesday morning outside the Food Lion on South Alabama Avenue in Chesnee left one person dead, another injured and a suspect in custody, triggering a homicide investigation in the middle of a busy business block.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said the injured person’s condition is still unclear and the person who died has not been identified. The Food Lion will remain closed for the day, while crime scene tape stretched around the Chesnee Washerette, Serenity Massage Therapy, Designers Unlimited and the Chesnee Car Wash nearby.
One side of Hardee’s in the same block was also taped off, though people could still come and go through the other side. That left the scene open enough to show how tightly packed the area is, with one violent incident now affecting a stretch of businesses that ordinarily serve the same traffic.
Even with the store closed, nearby schools in Spartanburg District 2 are operating on a normal schedule, and school resource officers are on campus as usual. That detail underscores the immediate split in the response: the investigation is centered on the shooting scene, but the rest of the area is trying to keep moving.
What led to the shooting has not been released, and that remains the most important unanswered piece. With one person dead, another hurt and a suspect already in custody, the next developments will come from how quickly investigators identify the victim and decide whether charges follow.
