The New York Giants turned Saturday into a roster reset for Week 7, activating Paulson Adebo from injured reserve and elevating Jalin Hyatt ahead of Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans. The moves gave the Giants more options on the edge of their secondary and at receiver as they prepared for the road trip to Houston.

That is why Adebo matters today. He was designated for return from injured reserve after being placed there Sept. 18 with a knee issue, and he practiced Wednesday in a limited capacity before the club brought him back onto the active roster. The timing also lines up with the Giants’ place in the standings: they entered Week 7 at 3-2-1, with the Texans sitting at 2-4.

Adebo’s return carries more weight because the Giants are not getting healthier everywhere at once. Greg Newsome II was ruled out with a concussion, Jevón Holland was downgraded to out after being listed as questionable, and Theo Johnson also was downgraded to out and did not travel with the club to Houston. Tremaine Edmunds was ruled out as well because of a shoulder injury, leaving the Giants to patch together pieces across a roster that was already being squeezed by injuries.

The secondary picture helps explain why the move was made now. The Giants released their second injury report of the week on Saturday, and it showed Jermaine Eluemunor, Marcus Mbow, and Andrew Thomas upgraded to limited, while Colton Hood, Jordan Stout, and Kayvon Thibodeux were upgraded to full. In that same sweep, Chris Manhertz was added as a non-participant, a reminder that one activation does not erase the wider injury load around it.

Jalin Hyatt’s elevation adds another wrinkle, though it does not settle his Sunday status. The roster move makes him available, but the Giants have not said whether he will be active against the Texans. That leaves the final game-day decisions to sort out on a roster that now includes Adebo back from injured reserve, J.J. McCarthy starting at quarterback, Jameis Winston as the backup, and Jake Haener as the emergency third quarterback. After Sunday in Houston, the Giants go on their bye week, so every Saturday move now carries extra weight.
