Taye Diggs has joined the lineup for Rent, the 30th Anniversary Concert, a one-night benefit that will stream live from the set of Hamilton at Broadway’s Richard Rodgers Theatre on Monday, October 26, 2026. The show will support Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and bring more than 60 Broadway performers together for the anniversary event.

Diggs is part of the original Rent cast returning for the concert, alongside Timothy Britten Parker and Byron Utley. The lineup also includes Norbert Leo Butz, Neil Patrick Harris and Rachel Zegler, giving the benefit a cast that mixes original performers with newer Broadway names and the kind of star power that can fill a theater even when the in-person seats are already gone.

That demand is already visible in the ticketing. In-person tickets are sold out, but 24 seats will be released through a digital lottery powered by Broadway Direct. The lottery opened at broadwaycares.org/rent30lottery, and fans who do not get in person can still buy $30 livestream tickets to watch from anywhere in the world.

The setup fits the event’s purpose. Rent is being celebrated as Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning musical, and the lottery format nods to the show’s pioneering rush ticket legacy. It also gives the benefit a broader reach: the livestream will remain available until 11 pm Eastern on Tuesday, October 27, and the Gates Foundation will match donations from every livestream ticket purchase up to $525,600.

For fans of Rent, the immediate question is not whether the concert matters. It is how many people will actually get into the room when the show begins on October 26. With the lottery open now and the seats already sold out, the final crowd will be decided by chance, while everyone else will be watching from home.
