President Grace Penn has ordered American warships toward British shores and warned that anything trying to get past will be met with fire. The move comes as the crisis over the missing Poseidon, taken in secret from a Russian submarine off the English coast, has reached the morning of the G7 summit and pushed the two countries closer to an open clash.
That is why The Diplomat season 4 is being searched now: the show’s central crisis has stopped being a covert operation and become a question of who blinks first. Britain and Russia still do not know the Poseidon is missing, but Grace is treating the situation as if force is the only language left, even after Kate Wyler learned on the summit morning that the next step had already been set in motion.
Hal Wyler was the first to tell Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge that the U.S. had taken the Poseidon. Trowbridge later resigned after Kate blackmailed him, and Prime Minister Bethan Vaughn took over before allowing Russia to retrieve the bodies of the soldiers who died on the submarine. Grace then ordered Kate to get Vaughn to reverse course, adding that she would send warships if she had to, and Todd later made clear that those ships would shoot at anything that tried to push through.
The push for escalation did not go unchallenged. Kate, Hal, Miguel Gannon and Billie Appiah all tried to talk Grace down, warning that the plan could spiral into nuclear war, but she would not budge. Stuart Hayward took the opposite path and filed a report in the internal, sanctioned dissent channel to register his disapproval, only to be removed from his post in London and sent back to D.C.
That leaves the G7 summit as more than a diplomatic backdrop. It is the place where a stolen nuclear weapon, a prime minister under pressure and a president willing to send warships have all collided in public view. The one detail still missing is what Kate learned that morning, and the answer is likely to determine whether the next move is a warning, a retreat or something far worse.
