John Boyega has revealed that he has been secretly married for coming up two years and that he and his wife are expecting a baby boy. The actor said the couple had a small ceremony and added that his life is “completely, completely fulfilled in terms of family.”
He made the disclosure while speaking to ahead of the release of documentary Damilola: The Untold Story, turning what had been private family news into a public reveal at the moment the documentary was coming out. Boyega, who played Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and later starred in Pacific Rim Uprising, said, “We got a baby cooking,” and described the timing as especially good.
The news lands with an edge of surprise because the relationship had stayed out of public view even as John Boyega was linked in the past to Lashontae Heckard, whose Instagram bio now reads “Tae Boyega.” He did not frame the marriage as a sudden change so much as something already established, saying he would like to have a proper celebration sometime in the future and that he prefers marking what has lasted rather than the moment it began.
That leaves one detail still unanswered: when, exactly, the small ceremony took place. Boyega has made clear that the marriage is real, that a baby is on the way, and that the private life he has been guarding is now far enough along for him to talk about it plainly. What he has not done is put a date on the day the family story started, and for now that is the one part he is still keeping to himself.
