Michael Douglas said his temporary separation from Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2013 ended with a reconciliation by 2014, bringing new attention to a marriage that has lasted 25 years. The 82-year-old actor said the break was hard, but that he and Zeta-Jones are now stronger than ever.

The renewed interest comes as the couple's Irvington, NY, estate, Longmeadow, is back on the market for $9.75 million. The Hudson River property first went up for sale in June 2024 at $12 million, was removed in April 2025, returned a month later at $10 million and then came off the market again before a third attempt in March 2026.

Douglas and Zeta-Jones married in November 2000 and share two children, Dylan, 26, and Carys, 23. He said he moved out of the family home during the 2013 separation and rented another nearby property so he could stay close to the children, while he and Zeta-Jones deliberately did not speak every day.

That distance, Douglas said, was part of what made the period so difficult. He described the separation as a time when the couple still loved each other immensely but needed to decide whether being married was right for the whole family, a judgment that was made harder because Dylan and Carys were in the middle of it.

What stands out now is not only that the marriage survived, but that Douglas has linked the family strain to a property decision that has also been in motion for months. Longmeadow's third run on the market suggests the couple is still trying to find the right price, even as Douglas presents the marriage itself as settled.
