Guy Gardner is back in Lanterns, and Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern finally appears in Season 1, Episode 6 after sitting out the first five episodes. The return matters because this is the hour that reveals Guy as the new Green Lantern after John Stewart leaves behind the ring for good.
That makes the episode the reason the search traffic is landing now: it is the first on-screen look at Fillion’s character in the series, and it places him squarely inside the 2026 timeline. John Stewart goes back to Rushville, meets up with Hal Jordan one last time, and later turns up in jail after Guy follows a distress signal from Rushville.
For Fillion, the surprise was getting the call to play the part again at all. He said he had been concerned about consistency when the tone changed, but he treated the shift as something like spending a weekend in Metropolis or Gotham — different surroundings, same person. That outlook fits a character who was already a voice role for him in the mid-aughts on Justice League Unlimited and is now being used as a live-action thread in DC.
Guy also arrives with a very specific attitude. Fillion described him as someone who is very concerned about brand and corporate sponsorship, with financial goals, retirement plans and even a bar he wants to open. In his telling, Guy does not just want to be Green Lantern. He wants to be a famous Green Lantern, and he is comfortable throwing his weight around while doing it.
That confidence runs into a snag in Episode 6. Guy may be the only one in the room with the ring, but he also becomes beholden to John for the first time when John leans on him for a favor. Fillion said Guy does not like owing John Stewart anything, and the line lands harder because John tells him, “Everything you have is because I didn’t take it.”
The result is a sharper version of Guy Gardner than the one fans may expect. He is public, practical and hungry for status, which makes him feel less like a cosmic wanderer and more like someone chasing recognition inside a grounded show. The episode does not spell out what he does next after this appearance, but it does make one thing plain: Guy Gardner is now part of the series’ future, and he enters it with both the ring and a debt he would rather not have.
