Treylon Burks is active for the Washington Commanders in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys after being inactive last week. That changes Washington’s receiver mix for Sunday’s game and gives the team another option it did not have in the opener.
The Commanders set their roster on Friday when they released their final injury report for Sunday’s game. Burks was in uniform for the divisional matchup, while Luke McCaffrey remained a healthy scratch and Athan Kaliakmanis was inactive again as the emergency 3rd quarterback.
That combination matters because Washington had receiver availability changes heading into the game, and Burks’ return gives the offense a larger body to work with against the Cowboys. The team was also juggling other personnel decisions at the same time, including the activation of Ale Kaho from the practice squad and the continued movement around Ricky Barber and Isaac Yiadom.
The wider injury picture was still shaping the roster. Frankie Luvu and Chig Okonkwo were ruled out on Friday after injuries from the Eagles game last Sunday, while Javon Kinlaw was listed as questionable with a back injury but was active. Rookie guard Tanoa Togiai was among the inactives, Jaylin Lane was dealing with a groin injury, and Jordan Magee had already been placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury suffered against the Eagles.
Burks’ status is the part that changes the game plan now. The Commanders did not explain why he was inactive last week, but his move from out to active suggests Washington wanted him available when the matchup sharpened. What role he gets Sunday is still the unanswered part, and that is the one that will tell whether this is simply a roster note or something bigger for Washington’s passing game.
