Texas stayed at No. 1 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, but the order behind it changed fast after Week 3. Mississippi moved up three spots to No. 6, Alabama climbed to No. 8, Brigham Young rose to No. 9 and Texas Tech entered the top 10 at No. 10.

The move that mattered most came just below the front of the poll. Texas kept the top spot with 46 of 74 first-place votes, Georgia held No. 2 with 16, Notre Dame stayed No. 3 with two, Indiana remained No. 4 with nine and Miami (Fla.) kept No. 5 with the final first-place vote. That left the top five unchanged even as the rest of the top 10 was rearranged.

Mississippi’s climb came after it took down LSU, and Ohio State slipped one place to No. 7 after handling Kent State. Alabama moved up two spots after outlasting Florida State, while Texas Tech’s rise gave the top 10 a new face. LSU fell four places to No. 11, which is the clearest sign that the weekend’s results were not just a reshuffle at the top but a reset in how the poll viewed several teams.

The vote spread shows why Mississippi moved ahead of Ohio State even with both teams winning. Mississippi’s rise was tied to a stronger overall push in the ballot, while Ohio State’s one-spot slide came without a loss. The poll also carried major movement lower down: Texas A&M fell 12 positions to No. 20 after a home loss to Kentucky in its SEC opener, Louisville entered at No. 19 after beating SMU, Florida joined at No. 22 after winning at Auburn, and Houston and Virginia dropped out of the top 25 after Week 3.

That leaves the latest Coaches Poll Top 25 with a clear split between stability at the top and churn everywhere else. The next update will show whether Mississippi can keep climbing, whether Texas Tech can hold its place and whether the teams that dropped, entered or fell out can force another round of changes after Week 3.
