South Park returns to Comedy Central on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 10 p.m. ET/PT, and the new season is arriving with a different name. Season 29 will be billed as South America when the premiere episode, South American Biker Gangs, opens the run.
That matters now because viewers do not have long to wait: the season will move on every other Wednesday through Nov. 25, and each episode will stream on Paramount+ the day after it premieres. For anyone trying to follow the rollout, the math is simple enough — one episode at launch, then another every two weeks until the late-November finish.
The naming shift was set in motion in early September, when Trey Parker and Matt Stone said the new season would use the South America title and framed it as a dig at the Trump administration’s repeated renaming efforts. They also thanked Apple and Google in the same statement, along with Paramount, turning what could have been a routine season announcement into part joke, part political jab, part corporate sideswipe.
The premiere title fits that approach. In the plot description, when e-bikes arrive in South America, the boys take over the streets and the parents of South America can hardly recognize South America. The joke works because the season is not just changing labels; it is treating the label itself as the punchline, while the show keeps moving through a moment when its most recent Emmy win has put it back in the spotlight.
That win came with Season 27 taking Outstanding Animated Series at the Creative Arts Emmys, the first Emmy for the show in over a decade. Before that, it had collected five Emmys from 2005 to 2013, then gone through a stretch of eight nominations and zero wins from 2013 to this year's ceremony. The timing gives the new season extra edge: South Park is returning with awards momentum, but it is also still doing what it has always done best, turning Donald Trump into a target the moment it has the microphone.
For viewers, the schedule is settled and the gimmick is temporary unless Parker and Stone decide otherwise. Comedy Central gets the first run, Paramount+ gets the next-day stream, and the only unresolved question is whether South America survives beyond Season 29 or disappears once the final episode lands on Nov. 25.
