Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski are splitting after nine years of marriage, and the pair said they have already been separated for a while. In a statement to People on Tuesday, they said the move was the right one for them and their family unit, while adding that they will have each other forever.

The confirmation lands now because Seyfried and Sadoski are not just ending a marriage that began in March 2017; they are also trying to draw a line around a family that still includes two children. Their daughter, Nina, is 9, and their son, Thomas, is 5, which makes this more than a celebrity breakup and less than a clean break.

Seyfried’s name has stayed in the headlines for another reason, too. In November 2025, she said it was really hard to balance raising their two children with acting, adding that this was the most she had ever worked with two kids and that she had never had two movies come out at the same time. She was referring to The Housemaid and The Testament of Ann Lee, a workload that made the family strain easier to see in public even before the separation was confirmed.

There is also a long history behind the statement. Seyfried and Sadoski first met in 2015 while starring together in The Way We Get By, and Sadoski later said on The Late Late Show with James Corden in 2017 that they eloped after taking off into the country with an officiant and just the two of them. At the time, he said Seyfried was the person he loved, admired and respected most in the world.

That is what makes this split feel carefully framed rather than hostile. Seyfried said in January that Sadoski sacrifices a lot for her and that the opportunities she is being afforded are insane, while Tuesday’s statement stressed that the separation was right for the family. The unresolved question is not whether they are over; it is how long the private separation has already been shaping the life they say they still share.
