Dominick Bianchi was found dead in a wooded area on Sunday night, ending the search for the 35-year-old after he vanished from his East Greenbush home last week. East Greenbush police had been asking the public to help look for him after he was last seen Tuesday morning.

The case had already gripped the people closest to him because Bianchi left home without his cellphone, wallet or car. Family members were also worried he did not have his insulin with him, and no cause of death was immediately announced.

Detective Sergeant Michael Guadagnino said the East Greenbush Police Department extends its deepest condolences to Bianchi’s family, loved ones and all those affected by the loss, adding, “Our thoughts are with them as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.”

Julianna Zyra, who had recently married Bianchi, pleaded for her husband to come home and said he had been struggling recently with his mental health. His disappearance set off a public search in which police asked locals to check their properties and surveillance cameras for any sign of him, and later thanked them for the help.

What remains unanswered is the most important part of the story: how Bianchi died. Police have said only that he was found dead in a wooded area, and until a cause of death is released, the end of the search is also the beginning of the inquiry into what happened to him.
