Salomón Rondón scored again for Pachuca against Atlante, and the goal pushed his season total to eight. It was another sign that the forward has settled quickly into a scoring rhythm in Mexico.
The strike matters because Rondón is not just adding numbers; he is doing it with pace. He has now returned to scoring in Mexican football with Pachuca after a run that has kept him near the top of the conversation around the Liga MX Table, even if this latest match did not come with a headline-grabbing scoreline of its own.
That is the clearest measure of his current spell. Eight goals in a season is a strong return, especially for a player whose job is to turn chances into points, and Pachuca have been able to lean on that reliability as the campaign moves forward. In a goleada against Atlante, Rondón did what has become familiar: he found the net and gave the evening another reason to matter.
His present form stands out more when set against what came before. Rondón arrived at River in January 2023, played 35 official matches, started 18 of them and came off the bench 17 times, and finished with 10 goals, all in domestic competitions. He scored a brace against Huracán on 9 April 2023, netted in the 2-0 win over Boca Juniors at La Bombonera on 1 October 2023, and later headed in a last-minute goal against Atlético Tucumán. He also left with two titles in 2023, the Liga Profesional 2023 and the Trofeo de Campeones 2023.
Even so, Rondón later described River as “un equipo más en mi carrera,” a line that sits awkwardly beside the weight of his season there. He and Martín Demichelis had already shared a squad at Málaga, and the striker’s time at River ended in December 2023 by mutual contract termination. That history is why every goal he scores in Mexico is measured against the version of him that once wore River colors and delivered in matches that mattered most.
What comes next is simple: Pachuca will keep asking for the same version of Rondón, the one that turns a single opening into a result. The open question is not whether he can score; it is how far this run can carry him and where his total for the club will settle when the season finally closes.
