NBC has kept Jac Collinsworth on Sunday Night Football Final on Peacock even as it cut him from Football Night in America, preserving one part of his NFL role while ending another. The move means he will still have a place in NBC’s Sunday Night Football coverage, but not on the main pregame desk.
The decision matters now because NBC confirmed the changes last week, putting Collinsworth’s name back in the spotlight as the network reshapes its football lineup. He will keep hosting the postgame show alongside Devin McCourty, Jason Garrett and Mike Florio, while Football Night in America loses several familiar faces in the same overhaul.
Sunday Night Football Final is a 30-minute postgame program built for Peacock, which gives NBC a separate lane from the broadcast-side pregame show. That structure helps explain why Collinsworth could be removed from one program and retained in the other: the postgame show is a streaming-specific product, and NBC appears to be treating it as a distinct assignment rather than part of the same on-air package.
The friction is hard to miss. Collinsworth was excised from Football Night in America even though NBC still chose to keep him in Sunday Night Football Final, a softer landing than the one handed to Tony Dungy, Rodney Harrison, Chris Simms and Matthew Berry, who were also removed from the pregame show. NBC had already leaned on Collinsworth in a different setting, sending him, Dungy and Harrison to Alcatraz Island for Super Bowl LX pregame coverage rather than Levi’s Stadium, and the network later settled on keeping him in the Peacock role.
That choice also fits Collinsworth’s broader NBC profile. He previously hosted Sunday Night Football Final with Dungy and Harrison, served as NBC’s lead Notre Dame play-by-play voice for two seasons before Dan Hicks replaced him in 2024, and has also worked as a play-by-play voice and reporter across NBC’s college basketball and NASCAR coverage. More recently, he hosted Gold Zone throughout the Winter Olympics, keeping him visible across the network even as his football duties shifted.
NBC’s message is plain: Collinsworth is not out of the picture, only out of one chair. Beginning Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. ET, he will add another assignment by hosting 10/10: NBC Sports Ranks, a weekly countdown show built around highlights and viral sporting moments. The role keeps him on the air and gives NBC another use for him, which may be the clearest answer yet to why the network kept him on Peacock while cutting him from Football Night in America.
