Carson Kvapil earned the first pole of his NASCAR O’Reilly Series career on Saturday, putting his No. 1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet at the front for tonight’s Fleetio 200 at Darlington Raceway. The 23-year-old will lead the field to green after turning a lap of 30.424 seconds at 161.636 mph.
The result gave Kvapil his first pole in 67 series starts, his first of the 2026 season and his first in five tries at the Track Too Tough to Tame. It also secured his 18th top-10 starting position of the year, a clean answer to the question that mattered most once qualifying ended: he was quick enough to edge the field when it counted.
Justin Allgaier came close, qualifying second with a lap of 30.485 seconds at 161.312 mph, but Kvapil still held the top spot by a margin of 0.061 seconds. Brandon Jones was third, Jesse Love fourth and Sam Mayer fifth, a front end of the grid that leaves Kvapil with the advantage of clean air and the first move when the green flag falls.
That is why Darlington still carries the nickname Track Too Tough to Tame: the lap times are only part of the test, because the place punishes the smallest mistake and gives drivers little room to recover. Kvapil has now put himself in position to start from the best possible place, while Allgaier’s second-place run added another top-10 start to a season that has already produced 14 of them and 15 in 22 career races at Darlington.
The pole does not win the Fleetio 200, but it changes the terms of the race before it starts. Kvapil gets the front row advantage tonight, and the pressure now shifts to whether he can turn his first career pole into something larger once the laps begin at Darlington Raceway.
