Salahdine Parnasse will make his UFC debut on Saturday in the main event at Accor Arena in Paris, and the promotion has placed him straight across from Dan Hooker. Parnasse said the timing feels right. Speaking earlier this week through a translator, he said he is arriving with maturity and the experience of 25 fights outside the UFC, adding that he believes he has everything he needs to show in the cage. He also said he has a lot of finishes and knockouts, and expects the matchup to produce a strong fight.
That record is part of why the booking stands out. Parnasse enters on a five-fight winning streak with a 23-2 record overall, and most of that work came under the KSW banner, where he won titles at featherweight and lightweight and held Double Champ status for the final three years of his time there. He also avenged his first professional loss within a year, a run that helped build the case for a jump into the UFC after so much time away from it.
Hooker gives the fight its edge. Parnasse called him very strong and very experienced, and said he is at the top of the UFC for a reason. That is the hard part of this debut: Parnasse is being asked to walk into a main event against a veteran who has spent years near the top of the division, while Hooker comes in off consecutive setbacks. The UFC does not often put a first-timer into that kind of slot, which makes this booking as revealing as it is risky.
Parnasse said he loves the challenge and sees the matchup as a perfect one because both fighters like to put on a show. On Saturday, the answer will not come in the shape of a projection or a sales pitch.
