Colorado listed Danny Scudero as a starter for Thursday’s opener at Georgia Tech, but his status still came down to game time after he missed time in fall camp with a lower body issue.
That uncertainty matters now because Colorado is opening the season on Sept. 3 on the road, and the game is the first chance to see Brennan Marion and Chris Marve in their new roles. Scudero, along with DeAndre Moore and Kam Perry, was one of the transfer receivers expected to help shape the offense immediately.
Scudero’s name on the official depth chart gave the impression he was close, and Deion Sanders has sounded optimistic for weeks. In early August, Sanders said, “Danny’s progressing, we’re hoping he’s gonna return sooner rather than later,” and on Aug. 24 he said he expected to see the full receiver rotation at practice and that Scudero and the other receivers would be back out wide.
But Sanders also put a condition on that optimism. He said the receivers would probably be back by Wednesday or Thursday, then added that he needed a week’s worth of work before he could really bet on it. That left Scudero in a narrow window: listed as a starter, yet still not fully cleared in the days before kickoff.
The setup is more complicated because Colorado does not have to release an injury report for this matchup against Georgia Tech, since the game is against an ACC opponent. So the clearest public signal before kickoff was the depth chart itself, and that chart still included Scudero among the starters even as his availability remained unresolved.
For Colorado, the opening against Georgia Tech is about more than one receiver. It is the first game of the season, the first look at the new offensive and defensive coordinators, and the first test of how much the offense can count on transfers who missed part of camp. Scudero’s final status is still the one question that matters most before the ball is kicked off.
