Emmy Rossum said at an FYC panel in Los Angeles on Thursday night that she has been "dodging predators" since she was 7 years old, giving the Hulu thriller Furious a personal weight that went beyond the room. She also said early Season 2 plans were already being discussed, marking the first public sign that the series is moving past launch into next-step planning.
Rossum said the show was, for her, a "full-body experience," a phrase that fits a project built around an FBI agent tracking a female serial killer while living with the aftermath of abuse. Furious was created by Elizabeth Meriwether for Hulu and was inspired by the 1987 film Black Widow, but Rossum said the idea for the series came to her during down time from COVID-19 and the 2023 Hollywood labor strikes, when she was thinking through what kind of story she wanted to make next.
The panel also made clear why the show has drawn attention so quickly. Meriwether said the response has been "amazing" and "surprising," and said she and Rossum became a duo a day after Rossum asked her to watch Black Widow. Rossum said she was drawn to the film’s final stretch, where "these two women, this FBI agent and this serial killer, who meet on this beach" leave the audience unsure whether they will fight or kiss. That mix of danger and intimacy has carried into Furious, with Scoot McNairy playing Danny, the NYPD detective partner of Alice and the father of a special-needs son.
There is still no public release of what those early Season 2 plans actually are, and that absence matters because the show’s creative center is so personal. Meriwether said she had never run a drama room before Furious and that what kept her going was the fact that it was "a story about these two women," while Rossum framed the series as something tied to her own life. For now, the clearest answer is that Furious has already moved from a one-season conversation to a larger one, even if the next chapter remains unwritten.
