Hailey Van Lith signed a seven-day contract with the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday, giving the rookie another brief run with Connecticut after a season that has moved in fits and starts. The short deal comes as the Sun try to finish out a lost year with seven games remaining.
The move keeps Van Lith on the floor for a team that is already out of playoff contention at 10-27. She has appeared in 16 games for Connecticut, including three starts, and has averaged 5.3 points, 1.9 assists and 0.9 rebounds while shooting 42.9% from the field and 40.9% from beyond the arc.
Van Lith’s path this season has already taken several turns. She was the 11th overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft and began her league career with the Chicago Sky, where she averaged 3.5 points across 29 games as a rookie. She then joined Connecticut on a developmental contract earlier this season and, after the Sun waived her in May following nine games, came back just days later on another developmental deal.
That back-and-forth is what makes this latest agreement stand out. Connecticut did not bring her back for a long-term reset; it chose a seven-day contract, the kind of move that gives a team immediate flexibility while leaving the next roster step open. With injuries to Brittney Griner and Aaliyah Edwards having opened the door for more minutes late in the season, Van Lith turned that chance into her most stable stretch yet.
What happens when the seven days are up now becomes the question. The Sun have already shown they are willing to keep cycling Van Lith through different roster arrangements, and Wednesday’s signing suggests they still see value in having her available, even if only for the final push of a season that has already slipped away.
