Shares of Super Micro Computer jumped 9.4% on Tuesday after Cisco said it would partner with the server maker on liquid-cooled, rack-scale AI solutions. For investors who watched Monday’s drop, the move looked less like a full recovery than a reminder that the company still has a business story to tell even as legal questions hang over it.

Billy Duberstein, who said he and his clients have positions in Super Micro, called Cisco’s move a kind of “seal of approval.” That is the reason the stock moved so quickly: Cisco is not just buying hardware, it is adding Super Micro’s liquid-cooled Nvidia AI racks to its Secure AI Factory architecture portfolio, which gives the company a visible place inside a major infrastructure stack.

The market had just punished Super Micro especially hard on Monday after Taiwanese Authorities indicted two Super Micro employees for trying to redirect Super Micro AI servers to China. Those indictments were part of a broader case involving nine individuals, including one Nvidia employee, and they landed after accusations since mid-2024 that Super Micro had been playing fast and loose on accounting compliance and corporate governance.

That history matters because the stock has been trading on two different stories at once. On one hand, Super Micro secured a new auditor who signed off on its books in 2025, and the company said it was not a defendant in the recent server-smuggling scheme. On the other, the recent indictments, governance accusations and export-control concerns keep investors from treating any rally as clean validation.

Cisco’s endorsement does not erase that cloud, but it does narrow the argument against Super Micro. The company has already clawed back part of a prior decline, and it still trades at a big discount to peers, including Dell Technologies, despite a recent massive earnings beat and strong forward guidance. For now, the better read is that Cisco has given Super Micro a stronger defense on the technology side than it has on the legal one.
