A fire was reported at the Milleridge Inn in Jericho on August 20, setting off scanner traffic and social media posts about a blaze at the historic Long Island catering venue. No official fire department statement was available, and the cause remained unknown.

The reports pointed to a building fire at 585 North Broadway, where the Milleridge Inn sits as both a restaurant and a shopping complex. One Facebook post described the scene as a commercial fire at “Milldridge Inn 585 N. Broadway,” while another message on X called it “Signal 10 Jericho FD” and said the fire was on the first exposure.

The name drew attention for a reason. The Milleridge Inn was built in 1672, served as a wayside inn for the Underground Railroad during the Abolitionist period in the 1800s, and now includes a 1,000-seat restaurant and the Shops at Milleridge Village. A fire there is not just another local alarm; it touches a place that has carried history, business and daily traffic all at once.

There was also a familiar echo in the background. In 2014, the restaurant at the Milleridge Inn closed after a fire destroyed the kitchen late at night, and Bruce Davis said then that the flames were directed into the kitchen so the 1672-built house did not fall down and the banquet rooms stayed intact. This time, online posts suggested the blaze may have been knocked down by 1006PM, but there was no official confirmation and no public word on whether the building, the restaurant or the banquet operations took damage.

For now, the key unanswered question is not whether the fire was real. It was. The question is how much of the Milleridge Inn was affected, and whether the old house and the business built around it came through this fire the way they did last time.
