Georgia Dane is about to make her acting debut, and she is doing it opposite her mother, Rebecca Gayheart. The 14-year-old will appear in Lifetime’s The Ocean Between Them, a project that gives her first movie role a very public launch.
The film, set to air on Sept. 26, is inspired by a true story and puts Gayheart in the role of a devoted mother whose world is shattered when her daughter Miranda disappears at sea during a vacation in Belize. Georgia Dane will play Ashley, Joan’s younger daughter, and the casting makes the debut feel less like a cameo than a full introduction to screen work.
That is what makes the timing hit harder. Eric Dane died in February at age 53 after a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, months after he said he had been diagnosed with a nervous system disease in April 2025. Before his death, he was best known for playing Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy and also appeared in the third season of Euphoria.
For Gayheart, the project extends a family arrangement that has already held through a divorce filing, a later request to dismiss the case, and years of co-parenting with Eric Dane. They share two daughters, Georgia and Billie, and Gayheart said in 2025 that they had found a formula that lets them stay a family. This debut now puts Georgia Dane in the same frame as her mother at a moment when the family history around them is impossible to ignore.
What comes next is simple and concrete: The Ocean Between Them reaches Lifetime on Sept. 26. The unanswered detail is not whether Georgia Dane is entering acting — she is — but whether this first film is a one-time step or the start of a longer run in front of the camera.
