Sony has put Marvel’s Wolverine-themed PS5 hardware up for preorder, turning the game’s September 15 launch into a hardware drop as well. The lineup includes a limited-edition PS5 Digital Edition bundle, console covers and a DualSense Wireless Controller built around black, Battle Yellow and Adamantium white.
That is why buyers are searching now. The bundle ties the system and the game together, with a yellow-and-black PS5 Digital console, the themed controller and a digital code for Marvel’s Wolverine all sold as one package. The console itself carries an etched image of the hero’s angry face at the top, plus a triple slash running diagonally down the side. It looks less like standard game marketing and more like Sony trying to make the machine itself feel like part of the release.
The controller is the piece that will grab most people first. Chris Reed, a senior commerce editor and deals expert for IGN, called the Battle Yellow model “Wolverine-y” and said, “I love it.” It has three jagged yellow claw slashes across the touchpad and left grip, a bit of gray weathering on either side, yellow sticks, a yellow bottom section and yellow shapes on the face buttons and D-pad directions. In other words, Sony did not just tint a stock pad and call it themed.
There is a catch in the preorder setup. The metallic white version, inspired by Wolverine’s alloy-infused skeleton, is a PS Direct exclusive, even as the wider preorder push is also running through PlayStation Direct and a handful of other retailers. For PS5 Slim owners, the answer is console covers instead of the full bundle. PS5 Pro owners get their own cover sets too, with yellow panels for the standard digital console and disc drive attachment, or metallic white if they want the exclusive look.
That leaves one simple conclusion for buyers: if they want the Wolverine treatment, they need to move before September 15, because that is when the game and the hardware land together. The only real question left is how fast the more limited versions disappear while preorder stock is still open.
