McDonald’s is bringing Hello Kitty and Godzilla together in a new Happy Meal that starts Aug. 18 at participating locations nationwide, with eight exclusive collectible toys at the center of the release. The company first teased the collaboration on Instagram and then made it official two days later with a photo of the toys.
That timing is why the promotion is getting attention now: customers who want the set have a date, and it is close enough to the launch that the countdown is already underway. McDonald’s called the reveal “cute meets kaiju 08.18.” in its first post, then followed up with “cosplaying right into our hearts. Hello Kitty and Friends x Godzilla Happy Meal out 8.18.” when it shared the toys.
The new meal blends characters from the Sanrio universe with monsters from the Godzilla film franchise, and the teaser leans into the contrast. Hello Kitty appears in a monster suit, a playful twist on the character’s usual look that fits the crossover’s bigger idea: familiar figures recast as part of a kaiju mash-up. The toys are the main draw, but McDonald’s has not identified which eight characters are included.
The release also fits a pattern for McDonald’s this year. The Hello Kitty & Friends x Godzilla Happy Meal follows a 2025 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Hello Kitty and Friends Happy Meal, as well as the BT21 Happy Meal announced in July and the chain’s earlier 2025 partnership with BTS on Happy Meals with TinyTAN toys inspired by each of the group’s seven members. The new collaboration extends that run of pop-culture tie-ins, but it is the first to pair Hello Kitty with Godzilla.
What remains unanswered is simple and useful for collectors: McDonald’s has set the start date, but not the finish date. That leaves Aug. 18 as the only firm marker, and it makes the first day of availability the one most likely to matter for anyone hoping to get all eight toys before the limited run disappears.
