Disney is bringing Dreamfinder and Figment back to EPCOT, ending years of speculation around one of the park’s most beloved pairings. The announcement came in the closing moments of the Disney Experiences showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event presented by Visa.
Thomas Mazloum made the news plain onstage: “We are taking a new journey into imagination at EPCOT with Dreamfinder and Figment!” For fans who have spent years waiting for the duo to reappear together, that was the moment the room changed. Figment has remained a constant presence in the park’s orbit, but Dreamfinder has been the harder one to catch, the figure many visitors remember and many more have only heard about through decades of park lore.
That is why the timing landed so hard. The announcement was not buried in a routine update. It arrived at D23, where Disney typically saves its biggest crowd-pleasers, and it centered on a character partnership tied directly to the original Journey Into Imagination attraction at EPCOT. Dreamfinder was introduced there in 1983 and guided guests through sounds, colors, ideas, and anything else that sparks the imagination. He spent 15 years at the center of the ride before the original version of the attraction ended in 1998.
Figment never really left the conversation. He has shown up in EPCOT meet-and-greets in the Imagination! pavilion, become the focal point of EPCOT International Festival of the Arts since 2017, and even surged back into the spotlight with a viral novelty popcorn bucket in 2022. Disney has been clear that the character still matters to the park’s identity; what changed onstage was the decision to pair him again with the figure that helped define him in the first place.
That pairing also explains the friction inside the announcement. Dreamfinder is being restored to a place of prominence even though he has never fully disappeared from fans’ hearts. He lingered in memory, in merchandise, and in the way people talked about EPCOT’s imagination theme long after the original ride vanished. Disney is not just reviving a character. It is reaching back to a part of the park’s history that has remained emotionally active for years.
What Disney did not say was when the new journey into imagination will begin. That leaves the announcement in a familiar holding pattern for park fans: the promise is real, the reunion is on the books, and the countdown has not started yet. For now, the only firm thing is this: Dreamfinder is coming back to EPCOT, and Figment is going with him.
