Dr Jitendra Singh led a Tiranga Yatra on Friday to the zero point on the Indo-Pak International Border in Bobiya village, ending the rally at the Zero Line in Kathua district. The visit put the Union minister at the frontier itself, where he used the occasion to praise Border Security Force personnel for holding the line.
Singh said the BSF plays a critical role in securing the country in war and in peace, adding that people in the area can live and sleep without fear because soldiers remain awake through the night guarding the border. He also said their service and sacrifice are a major contribution to the nation, and he commended them for managing the recent flood situation.
The message was not only about the border, though. Singh linked the Tiranga Yatra at Bobiya to Prime Minister Modi’s vision of bringing the spirit of patriotism to every household and making citizens active participants in nation-building. That framing fit a day meant to stir public feeling, but it also gave the trip a clear political edge: patriotism was being tied directly to the frontier, not just to ceremony in a city square.
There was another layer beneath the praise. Singh was briefed about the BSF’s Smart Border reinforcement starting from this sector, while the region has long lived with the shadow of cross-border firing. He said the BSF’s role goes beyond border guarding, extending to prompt response during emergencies, relief work and help for civilians — a reminder that on this border, security is measured not only by fences and patrols but by how quickly the force can respond when the land itself turns difficult.
Singh also said Kathua and the wider Jammu region have seen unprecedented development over the past decade and entered a new era after 2014, with gains in connectivity, infrastructure, healthcare, education and industry. For Bobiya, the immediate takeaway is simpler: the border rally is over, but the unanswered part is what the Smart Border reinforcement will actually add when it reaches this sector.
