Damien Woody said did not renew his contract after 15 years, ending a run that made him one of the network’s familiar NFL voices. The 48-year-old said he will keep working on air for the rest of the month by his own choice.
Woody, a former two-time Super Bowl champion offensive lineman with the Patriots and an ex-Jet, said, “Being at for 15 years, it’s been an absolute joy.” He added on X that he was “still processing it all” and thanked colleagues who made it a joy “to talk ball for 15 yrs.”
His departure lands in the middle of a broader shake-up at, where the network has been cutting on-air talent across NFL and studio shows. Ryan Clark and Bart Scott were let go last month, and Karl Ravech, Tom Pelissero, David Lloyd, Stephania Bell, Charles Davis, Cam Newton and Andreas Hale were also part of the cuts. Woody appeared on Get Up, First Take, Fantasy Football Now and SportsCenter, making him a regular presence across the network’s daily NFL programming.
The timing points back to ’s recent integration of NFL assets it bought for $3 billion, including NFL Network, RedZone and NFL Fantasy Football, finalized in January 2026. Jimmy Pitaro said most of the layoffs stemmed from redundancies after that deal, and that had made significant progress folding the new assets into its lineup. That gives the cuts a clear business logic, but it does not make them any easier for the people leaving.
Woody’s own words suggest he is taking the change one step at a time. He said that moving from a serious speech impediment to working on TV was “truly one of my proudest accomplishments,” and said he was looking forward to what God has in store next. What comes after is not yet set, but his next chapter will begin with the same thing that defined his run there: a voice that kept showing up on ball days.
