Someone in Southeast Texas may be sitting on a $14.3 million surprise after a winning Lotto Texas ticket was sold Monday night at Murphy USA 5695 in Angleton. The Quick Pick ticket matched all six numbers in the Aug. 10 drawing and is worth $14,303,717.61 in cash before taxes.
That is why players are being urged to check tickets now. The jackpot was an estimated $26.75 million as an annuity, but the winner chose the cash option, turning one $1 play into a life-changing sum. Courtney Arbour called it a huge win and told the holder to sign the ticket right away, keep it safe and think about speaking with a financial advisor before claiming the prize.
The ticket was sold at Murphy USA 5695 at 1803 N. Velasco St., and the jackpot had been building since April 22, when it started at an advertised $5 million. It rolled through 48 consecutive drawings before being hit Monday night, a run that ended with 42,663 winning Lotto Texas tickets across the drawing and prizes ranging from $2 to $14,327.
The unanswered question is the one that matters most: has the winner checked the ticket yet? The prize remains unclaimed, and the holder has 180 days from Aug. 10 to come forward. If the ticket is still tucked in a drawer or left on a counter, it could already be worth far more than its owner realizes.
There is also a smaller payoff for the store that sold it. Under the Texas Lottery’s Retailer Bonus Program, the Angleton retailer could be eligible for a $25,000 bonus if the jackpot is claimed. The jackpot now resets to an estimated $5 million for Wednesday night’s Lotto Texas drawing, and the next round comes with the same simple math: players choose six numbers from 1 through 54, with drawings held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:12 p.m. CT.
Courtney Arbour said the agency cannot wait to celebrate the win with the ticket holder. First, though, someone in Southeast Texas has to find the ticket and make the claim.
