Police said there was an active scene Wednesday at Brown Bear Daycare in Hopkins, turning the home daycare into the focus of a large response that shut down part of the street and drew an ambulance to the block.
A detective told 9 by phone that the scene was active at Brown Bear Daycare on the 200 block of Tyler Avenue North, where police blocked off Tyler Street between 2nd Street and Lake Street while the investigation continued. A crime scene investigation vehicle was also at the location, along with multiple police agencies.
The reason the scene drew that much force was not yet public. An officer blocking access told 9 reporter Corin Hoggard that it was “very volatile,” a choice of words that fit the caution on the ground even as officials still had not said what happened.
That left families waiting while police appeared to be trying to reunify parents with children at the daycare. The developing response, the blocked streets and the ambulance all pointed to an incident serious enough to bring in several agencies, but officials had not released the nature of it by Wednesday morning.
