Stassie Karanikolaou stepped back into Kylie Jenner’s birthday moment on Aug. 10, posting a tribute after missing the 29th birthday party and calling Jenner her “Forever” bestie. Jenner answered by resharing the post and sending back four pink hearts, a small public sign that the friendship was still intact after a weekend of online chatter.
The post landed the day after Jenner marked her birthday in pink attire on Aug. 9, surrounded by guests including Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber and Victoria Villarroel. Jenner described the night as her “dream princess kitty bday night” and wrote, “My heart if [sic] so full. I love my life and my friends.” In that setting, Karanikolaou’s absence stood out because she is one of the few people whose name is tied so closely to Jenner’s personal life.
On her Instagram Story, Karanikolaou kept the message short: “Happy birthday to my baby.” That was enough to cut against the speculation that had followed the pair for years, especially because Jenner’s response was immediate and affectionate. The two first met at Barnes & Noble in middle school, and their friendship has been tested in public before, including when Karanikolaou addressed breakup rumors in 2021 and Jenner called her a “sister” in 2023 on The Kardashians.
The missing piece is why Karanikolaou was not at the party in Ibiza, Spain, but the public record around the birthday posts does not point to a rift. Jenner’s reshared tribute did the heavier lifting, because it showed she was comfortable putting Karanikolaou’s message back in front of her followers rather than letting it disappear into an old-feud narrative. In this case, the absence looked less like a breakup and more like a missed celebration between two friends who have spent years proving that a gap in posts does not automatically mean a gap in the relationship.
What remains unanswered is simple: Karanikolaou did not show up for the party, but she still showed up for Jenner, and Jenner made sure everyone saw it.
