Cadillac’s 2027 Lyriq configurator still lists Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, a fresh sign that GM’s plan to phase out phone projection may not be as settled as it once sounded.
The listing matters now because shoppers checking a current 2027 model page are being told one thing while GM’s broader message has been another. GM announced in 2023 that it would begin phasing out support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in future models starting with EVs, and it had planned to start with the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV. Yet the Cadillac configurator is up for several 2027 models, and the Lyriq still shows both systems in the standard equipment list.
Cadillac said it is “continuing to evolve its infotainment strategy across the EV portfolio, based on customer feedback, while also prioritizing the native, in-vehicle experience.” Mary Barra has also said, “We made a decision to prioritize our EV vehicles during this timeframe, and as we go forward, we’ll continue across the portfolio.” Those lines leave the company room to adjust, but they do not spell out a reversal. They do, however, fit with what buyers have been pressing for: access to the phone interface they already use for apps, maps and messages, rather than a fully closed system.
That is the friction point in GM’s plan. The company said it wanted drivers to move onto its own infotainment software, a strategy tied to more control over the in-car experience and, more broadly, to subscription-style services. It is also running against a simple reality in the market: Tesla and Rivian never allowed Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while BMW once tried to turn Apple Carplay access into a subscription in 2020. Even so, mainstream buyers have kept pushing back, and the Lyriq listing suggests Cadillac may be testing how much of the original phaseout can survive that pressure.
For now, the answer is narrow but important. The 2027 Cadillac Lyriq still appears to keep CarPlay and Android Auto, and Cadillac has not said in this listing whether that means a lasting change for GM EVs or just a configurator update that could disappear later. If the standard feature call holds, it would mark a practical retreat from the clean break GM once promised.
