North West turned up after dinner in Malibu on Wednesday night with electric blue hair, metallic-looking studs on both thighs and a look that again pushed her style experiments into public view. She was 13 years old, leaving Nobu Malibu with a friend, in a black graphic T-shirt, a pleated mini skirt and studded knee-high boots.
The details were hard to miss. She paired oversized futuristic sunglasses with stacked bracelets and rings, while bandages were visible on her forearm. A close-up also appeared to show scars on her hand where she used to have piercings, and she had piercings visible on her other hand. The thigh pieces looked like dermal piercings, but it remained unclear whether they were real or fake, and that uncertainty is part of why the images spread so quickly.
This is not the first time North has pushed the same lane. In 2025, she first debuted finger piercings, then answered criticism on TikTok by lip-syncing to the viral audio, “Why are you crying? How old are you? Just pull it together,” before adding, “This is for everyone that’s mad over a finger piercing.” She has also worn faux facial piercings, grillz, temporary tattoos and bleached brows, while her song “Piercing on My Hand (Ye Version)” with Ye references her hand piercings, blue hair and wanting more piercings and tattoos.
The earlier wrist detail matters because it shows how quickly her looks get scrutinized. In May, North shared selfies that appeared to show several metallic studs across her wrist and hand, but a representative later told the Daily Mail that the wrist detail was actually a sticker. That same pattern is now repeating with the thigh studs: the photos suggest body-modification-inspired fashion, but nothing in the images settles whether the look is permanent or temporary.
Kim Kardashian has already described her daughter’s style as unusual in a way that sounds more amused than alarmed, saying, “She has a really unique style,” and, “She puts me on to so many brands. She just loves what she loves.” Ye and Bianca Censori also turned up earlier this year at North’s Complex pop-up celebrating her debut EP, N0rth4evr, which showed the family remains willing to show up around her public projects even as her styling choices keep drawing attention. Ye stepped out with a stud on his cheek, and Bianca Censori also sported facial jewelry.
So the immediate answer is simple: the Wednesday night outing added another visible chapter to North’s ongoing look, and it renewed the same unresolved question that follows her every new post and photo. The thigh studs may be fashion, they may be fake, or they may be something more permanent, but until North says otherwise, the image itself is the point.
