Marvel showed fresh Avengers: Doomsday footage at its Hall H panel, and the shot that lingered longest was Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. The voice landed deeper and more haunting than expected, with Downey Jr. also reaching for an accent that made Doom feel less like a cameo and more like the center of gravity in the room.
That matters because Hall H is where Marvel tests the temperature of a movie before the wider audience gets a look, and this was the first real chance to see whether Avengers: Doomsday can carry the weight of its own setup. Everyone walking in was handed a Doctor Doom mask and cape, which turned the room into part preview and part performance before the footage even started.
The new material gave fans a clear outline of the conflict. Vanessa Kirby’s Invisible Woman explained who the Avengers were up against, Pedro Pascal’s Mr. Fantastic pleaded to Doctor Doom, and the footage stretched out an extended look at Thor trying to face off against Doom. It ended with Doom raising an army of Doombots, a finish that made the film feel built to escalate fast rather than settle into a single showdown.
That is also where the uneasy part comes in. The scenes shown so far suggest a film packed with moving pieces, and that can work when every beat pushes the story forward. But it can also leave a Marvel team-up feeling overloaded, especially if too much of the movie is really preparing the ground for Secret Wars instead of standing on its own. One of the clips that played in Hall H already appeared in a recent trailer, so the new footage did not answer every question about how much fresh material Marvel is holding back.
For now, the clearest answer is that Marvel wants Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom to define the pitch. The next hard date is December 18, when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters, and the real test will be whether the finished film gives Doom enough room to breathe or leaves him buried under the machinery around him.
