Discovery Channel is opening its annual Shark Week with Ken Jeong and Rei Ami in K-Pop Shark Heroes, the new segment highlighted in a fresh batch of images released in 2026. The opener puts the two in the frame for one of Discovery's biggest summer programming swings, with Rei Ami already tied to the hit movie KPop Demon Hunters.

The timing matters because Shark Week is one of Discovery's recurring event stretches, and this year's kickoff is built around a celebrity-backed shark feature rather than a standard wildlife package. The network also released images from Chum Island: Catching a Killer, Secrets of the Great White Kill and a sequence with high diver Molly Carlson preparing to leap 50 feet from a helicopter into a cage surrounded by reef sharks.

For Rei Ami, the images land alongside a far more direct brush with the water. She watched about 16 reef sharks go into a feeding frenzy from the ocean floor, a scene that turns the Shark Week frame from promotion into something closer to survival television. Ken Jeong appears in the same kickoff special, but the material released so far does not explain what either of them is doing inside it.

That gap is part of the hook. Discovery has shown the pairing, named the program and set it at the front of Shark Week, but the images leave the actual role of Rei Ami and Ken Jeong untold. What is clear is that Discovery is using the opener to draw viewers into a broader slate built around sharks, spectacle and a few high-stakes set pieces that will carry the week forward.
