Kevin Feige says Marvel has kept trying to bring Adam Driver into the fold, only for the actor to pass after repeated Zoom conversations. The remarks turn weeks of casting noise into a simple fact: Marvel wants him, and Driver has so far said no.
Feige made the comments on Happy Sad Confused, where he said it has become almost routine to Zoom with Driver and then watch the offer stall. He described those conversations as cordial and said Driver is usually direct about where he stands, which makes the pattern clearer rather than kinder. In other words, this is not a case of a silent standoff. It is a series of discussions that end the same way.
The timing matters because Driver’s name has circulated for weeks around the X-Men reboot, the next major Marvel project expected to introduce a new generation of mutant actors. That film is being directed by Jake Schreier, with Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo developing the script. Marvel is also trying to move beyond the cast tied to the Fox era, which makes any star it can land for the reboot especially important.
But the noise around Driver has outpaced the hard facts. Conflicting reports have linked him to Magneto, William Stryker and Mister Sinister, yet Feige did not confirm any of those roles. What he did confirm is narrower and, for now, more revealing: Marvel has gone after Driver more than once, and the answer has kept coming back the same way after the Zoom ends. That leaves the real question not which character he is playing, but whether he is interested in playing any Marvel character at all.
Marvel has not said publicly that Driver is part of the reboot, and Feige’s comments suggest the studio is still in the trying phase, not the finished one. For now, the search around Driver reads less like a casting announcement waiting to happen than a reminder that even Marvel cannot always close the deal.
