A 20-year-old man was taken to Clay County Jail on July 17 after deputies said he was driving 111 mph in a 45 mph zone on County Road 215.
The stop began at about 8:54 a.m., when a deputy conducting traffic enforcement recorded the speed with radar. The deputy activated emergency lights, made a U-turn and carried out the traffic stop.
Leese was issued a criminal citation for excessive speed after the stop. The speed reading was nearly 2.5 times the posted limit, a level that turned a routine enforcement patrol into an arrest in Clay County.
The case is based on a Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. That report identifies the driver only as Leese, leaving his full name unstated even as the radar reading and the arrest details are laid out in plain terms.
