Starz has dropped a teaser and new photos for Power: Origins, giving fans their first look at young Ghost, Tommy and Kanan together in the next chapter of the Power universe. MeKai Curtis is back as Kanan Stark, this time in a prequel that puts the character alongside Spence Moore as Ghost and Charlie Mann as Tommy.
The timing matters because Power: Origins is the fourth spinoff in a franchise that has kept expanding around the original trio. Ghost and Tommy were played by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora in Power, while Curtis first stepped into Kanan Stark in Power Book III: Raising Kanan. Now the new series is positioned as an origin story, with the three characters described as ambitious young entrepreneurs determined to make their mark on the streets of New York City.
That is the draw of the rollout, and it is also the tease: the footage is short, much shorter than fans would likely want after years of waiting for a closer look at how these three connect before the events of Power. The new photos do more of the heavy lifting than the teaser itself, which only sharpens interest in a series built around characters viewers already know, but not yet in this earlier form.
Power: Origins was created by Courtney A. Kemp and Sascha Penn, with Penn serving as showrunner and executive producer. The pilot was co-written by Penn and Kemp, who executive produces through End of Episode. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson executive produces through G-Unit Film and Television, Mark Canton through Canton Entertainment, and Chris Selak, Kevin Fox and Pete Chatmon also executive produce, with Chatmon directing as well.
The project is still in production in New Jersey, and that is the clearest sign of what comes next: more footage, more photos and eventually a release date that Starz has not yet provided. For now, the new teaser does what a good first look should do. It confirms the cast, reconnects the franchise to its roots and leaves the biggest question open just long enough to keep the search going.
