Warner Bros has moved Batman 2 to Feb. 18, 2028, pushing Matt Reeves’ sequel back from Oct. 1, 2027 and placing it on the 4-day Presidents Day holiday weekend. The film will still play on Imax screens on the new date.
The shift is the latest change to a schedule Warner Bros has been shuffling around as it makes room for other titles. J.J. Abrams’ The Great Beyond moved to Oct. 1, 2027 from Nov. 13, while Panic Carefully slid to April 9, 2027 in Imax and Revenge of La Llorona moved from April 9 to Feb. 26.
That matters because Batman 2 is not changing in isolation. Reeves’ sequel has already seen its start of production delayed five months, and Warner Bros says the new release date gives him more time in post-production. For a film built around a controlled, dark visual style, that extra runway is the reason given for the move.
Still, the delay lands as a setback for a movie that had been moving toward its 2027 slot. Robert Pattinson is returning as Batman, with Andy Serkis back as Alfred and Colin Farrell as Penguin. Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham and Sebastian Koch have also been added to the cast.
Batman 2 is part of a broader Warner Bros slate that is now being pulled into different lanes. The Great Beyond, Abrams’ first original movie in over a decade, was teased at April’s CinemaCon and had a test screening at the Regal Irvine before Warners decided it wanted 70MM Imax prints. That new release date leaves Abrams with more time to finish the film, while the studio keeps adjusting the rest of the calendar around it.
There is also a larger business picture hanging over the studio’s schedule changes. The pending Paramount acquisition of Warner Bros remains held up by antitrust lawsuits from the attorney general of California, New York and ten other states, which keeps the company’s future in the background even as its release slate keeps shifting. For now, Batman 2 is back on the calendar for Presidents Day weekend 2028, but the next date that matters is still the one Warner Bros has not named: when Reeves finally starts production.
