Asus will sell a standalone version of the OLED Ally after first planning to offer the handheld only as part of a bundle with a pair of expensive AR glasses. The change opens the door for buyers who wanted the device without paying for the accessory package.
Anthony Spence said the company is “actively discussing the release schedule for a standalone version of the new Ally” and told customers to “stay tuned for upcoming announcements.” That confirmation came after two hours with the OLED Ally at Asus’s California offices, turning what had been a bundle-only pitch into a broader sales plan.
The move matters because the OLED Ally is not just another version of the handheld line. It has a 7.4-inch OLED screen that is 1080p rather than 1200p, and Asus says the panel is brighter and fitted with anti-glare cover glass. The display is also smaller than the 8.8-inch screen on the Lenovo Legion Go 2, while the MSI Claw 8 EX uses an 8-inch IPS panel.
That comparison places Asus in a crowded field where price and screen choice can decide whether a device gets attention. The Asus Xbox Ally X is listed at $1,000, while the MSI Claw 8 EX AI Plus is tied to a much steeper $1,800 outlay, giving the OLED Ally room to appeal to buyers who care more about the handheld itself than the bundled extras.
What Asus has not said is when the standalone version will reach shoppers. For now, the company has only moved far enough to confirm that the option is coming, which leaves the release schedule as the next detail buyers will watch closely.
