Palworld’s 1.0 launch landed with a number that would have looked absurd for most games: 725,000 concurrent players on Steam this weekend, after 2.5 years in Early Access. Pocketpair said the surge came as the game rolled out its biggest patch in history.
That is why the Palworld Update is drawing attention now. The game had already been one of Steam’s biggest stories once before, when it briefly climbed to 2.1 million concurrent players shortly after launch, a peak that still ranks third-highest in Steam history. This new weekend push sent the game back into the upper tier of Steam launch peaks and put its second launch inside the top 15 ever.
Pocketpair said the response was far beyond its expectations. Before the jump, the game had been sitting at about 35,000 nightly players, then spiked to 700,000. That kind of move is hard to miss on any platform, especially for a game that has already spent years in public view rather than arriving as a fresh release.
The detail that complicates the cleanest reading is that the 725,000 figure was not made up entirely of new sales. Pocketpair said many of the players were returning owners using their original copies, and it also said it did not raise the price for 1.0. That means the launch weekend did more than trigger new demand; it pulled back a large part of the game's old audience at the same time.
Palworld is frequently updated, but it is not a live service game, which makes the scale of this kind of return more notable. The open question is how much of that 725,000-player total came from new buyers rather than people who were already waiting for the full release. Pocketpair has not broken that out, and the next measure of the game's strength will be whether it can hold enough of that crowd once the launch weekend spike fades.
