Apple has opened the first public betas of its 2027 software updates, and iOS 27 is now available for direct installation on compatible devices. The release puts Siri AI, performance gains and a slate of app updates in the hands of early adopters instead of a closed testing group.
That is why the search interest is spiking now: the iOS 27 public beta is not a teaser, it is live software that can be installed today. Apple says the update is available alongside previews of iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate and watchOS 27, giving users a first look at where the company is taking its platforms before the final releases arrive.
Siri AI is the headliner. Apple says the assistant can hold natural conversations, understand follow-up questions, answer what is on the screen and carry out multi-step actions inside apps. On recent Apple devices, the voice can be adjusted for expressiveness, and a dedicated Siri app keeps history available for later review. For users with Apple Intelligence-capable devices, the feature is part of the public beta from the start.
The catch is that Apple is not turning that feature on everywhere at once. Siri AI works only in English for now, and it will not initially be available in the EU. That limits the headline upgrade just as Apple is using it to frame iOS 27 as a major step forward in daily productivity rather than a routine system refresh.
The rest of the update is built around speed and polish. Apple says apps launch up to 30 percent faster in iOS 27, newly captured pictures appear in Photos up to 70 percent faster and AirDrop transfers can be up to 80 percent faster. Photos also gets more robust editing tools, including Spatial Reframing, the Extend feature for pushing images beyond their original boundaries and an improved Clean Up tool for removing unwanted objects.
Safari can now organize tabs into groups automatically and includes Notify Me, which watches webpages for price changes or restocks. Passwords can detect weak passwords and automatically update them. In Shortcuts, users can create automations by describing what they want in natural language. Apple is also addressing criticism of Liquid Glass with readability improvements and a slider that lets users adjust the effect.
There is more coming after installation. Users who put the iOS 27 beta on their devices can also install a public beta for AirPods, which adds a custom equalizer, an adaptive audio slider and a new settings menu. watchOS 27 brings a new Dynamic App Grid, a one-tap way to open more information from the Smart Stack, broader menstrual tracking support and Workout Buddy updates, including Spanish-language support and the ability to work without a nearby iPhone. In macOS 27 Golden Gate, Apple is positioning Siri AI as a productivity tool that can be summoned from Spotlight, used to analyze what is on the screen and called on for writing help.
For now, the biggest question is not what Apple added, but how fast it will widen access to the features it is placing at the center of the update. The beta is open, the changes are real and the rollout has begun, but Siri AI still lands with clear limits that leave some of the most visible users waiting.
