CCH Pounder has shut down the idea of joining The Pitt for an ER reunion, saying she would not want to appear on Noah Wyle’s hit medical drama. Speaking in an interview with ScreenRant’s Ben Gibbons for the 2026 Italian Global Series, she made clear that the overlap already built into the show is enough.
Pounder said The Pitt is “in the same arena as ER,” but added that she was happy to see Wyle move from being the novice in ER to “The Man in The Pitt.” Her answer was blunt: “I keep saying, ‘When you’ve had a steak, don’t go looking for hamburgers.’” She added that the show is “about 1 man, really, and how things happen surrounding him.”
The comment lands while The Pitt is still being watched closely for its ties to ER. Wyle has already been reunited with former ER showrunner John Wells and executive producer R. Scott Gemmill, and the series has also brought back a string of familiar faces from the older medical drama. Katherine LaNasa and Shawn Hatosy have appeared in both shows, while other shared names include Michael Hyatt, Tracy Vilar, Ernest Harden Jr., Shu Lan Tuan, Drew Powell, Jenny O'Hara, Rusty Schwimmer, Jeff Kober and Mary McCormack.
That is exactly why Pounder’s refusal matters. She played Dr. Angela Hicks in ER for the first four seasons, appearing in 24 episodes and earning her second Emmy nomination for the role. Angela Hicks was written as a mentor figure for Wyle’s Dr. John Carter and Eriq La Salle’s Dr. Peter Benton, but the character left in 1997 after season 4 without a real explanation. Pounder’s new remark suggests she sees no value in revisiting that world just to feed comparisons between the two series.
The Pitt has already aired 30 episodes and drawn widespread acclaim in its first two seasons, which only sharpens the expectation that more ER names could surface. Pounder, though, is not signing up to be part of that reunion logic. For now, the answer to whether she will join the overlap is no, and she has left the door open only for other former ER actors to decide whether they want to walk through it.
