Donald Trump said on Truth Social on Saturday that he had just finished a perfect physical at Walter Reed Medical Center and had once again aced a cognitive test. The White House later said he was referring to his May physical, not a new medical exam.
The claim landed while Trump was golfing, according to White House press pool reports, and it instantly raised a simple question: if there was no new visit, why write as if there had been one? The answer matters because the post was not a stray line. It was part health boast, part attack on Maggie Haberman, whom Trump called a loser and whose book he dismissed as a joke.
Trump also said he had requested another Cognitive Test, calling himself the only president to do so three times, and said he got every question right. The test he appears to be referring to is the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, or MoCA, a screening tool that asks people to identify pictured animals, draw a clock face and recall words given earlier in the exam. It is designed to detect cognitive decline and dementia, and Trump’s medical results have said he scored 30/30 each time.
That makes the White House clarification more than a clerical note. Trump’s most recent physical was on May 26, when Sean Barbabella said he was in excellent health. That exam also said Trump had put on 14 pounds since his previous physical in April 2025 and tried to explain his discolored and bruised hands by saying aspirin was the culprit. Since then, there have been no reports of another medical exam in late May or after it.
The friction is simple but important: Trump framed Saturday’s post as if a fresh Trump hospital visit had just happened, while the White House said he was pointing back to the May appointment. The distinction leaves open whether anything new happened at all or whether the message was built around an earlier exam and presented as current.
Trump is now 80 and remains the oldest person ever inaugurated, which is why even a vague health post travels fast. He has long avoided true scrutiny of his health, and the doctors’ reports have often been sparse in a way that does not match the public image he tries to project. On Saturday, the latest version of that pattern was a boast, a swipe at a reporter and a medical claim that the White House had to narrow before it settled into the record.
What still has not been answered is the one question his post invited: whether he actually underwent any new medical exam after May 26, or whether Saturday’s language was only a rerun of the last one.
