Fast food chains rolled out National French Fry Day promotions on July 10, and the offers ranged from free fries to purchase-based deals that ran through apps, websites and rewards programs. For customers looking for a quick win on an unofficial food holiday, the catch was simple: many of the fries were only free if the order met a condition first.

McDonald's rewards members could get free medium fries with a purchase of $1 or more through the McDonald's app, while Chick-fil-A One members could unlock a free medium-sized waffle fries reward by playing Spot the Cows in the app from July 7 through July 14. Five Guys offered one free Little Fry with the purchase of a burger, hot dog or sandwich through the app or website, and customers had to enter FRYDAY26 at checkout. Jack Pack rewards members could get a free order of fries of any size on July 10 with a minimum purchase of $1, and Sheetz offered one free bag of fries from July 10 through July 16 with a purchase of $10 or more through the app under the OFFERZ tab.

Whataburger took a cleaner approach, giving rewards members a free medium fries with no purchase necessary, though redemption still had to happen online or in the app. Another promotion let customers get free cheese fries with any order by using CHEESY from July 10 through July 12, and that offer could be used online, in the app or in store. The day’s deals underscored how National French Fry Day works now: not as a single, universal giveaway, but as a promotional moment built around membership, apps and minimum-spend thresholds. That means the real value depended less on the holiday itself than on whether a customer was already inside a chain’s rewards system when the clock hit July 10.

The offers also stretched beyond that date in different ways, with some ending after July 12 and others lasting to July 14 or July 16. The open question for customers is not whether the chains had deals — they did — but which nearby locations took part, since several offers were limited to participating locations or depended on the store channel that processed the order.
