Pringles is putting its name on hot dog buns this summer, and the first chance to get them arrives Wednesday, July 8. The limited-time Pop Dog Buns come in Sour Cream & Onion, BBQ and Honey Mustard, and they arrive in a classic Pringles can as part of a three-flavor release built for National Hot Dog Day.
The timing is why the product is drawing attention now. The brand says there will be one more chance on Wednesday, July 15 at 12 p.m. ET, giving shoppers two drop dates to chase a product that turns an ordinary cookout staple into a snack-style launch. The buns are about 7.5 inches long, which keeps them in the normal range for a hot dog bun, even if the idea behind them is anything but normal.
Mauricio Jenkins said the company wanted to bring the Once You Pop experience to the center of the plate and turn something everyone knows into an unexpected snackable experience. He also said the aim of the Once You Pop campaign is to keep delivering the unexpected, which is why the company is reimagining bland buns as something more flavorful inside its signature packaging.
That promise is part of what makes the release interesting, but it also leaves room for doubt. A reviewer who received the chips and buns ahead of the announcement said the buns were soft and chewy and should hold up well under plenty of toppings. At the same time, the same review suggested it was less certain whether all of those toppings would still come through in the taste, which is a fair question for a bun built around chip flavor rather than bread flavor.
The offer is simple enough: the Pop Dog Buns are free with the purchase of a Pringles Three-Pack featuring the same flavors, and the three-pack costs $6.97. What is still left unresolved is how long the buns will stay available after the two listed drops. For now, the confirmed window is narrow, and that is exactly what makes July 8 the first date to watch.
Mauricio Jenkins put it more bluntly: the extra Pringles flavor is meant to make the buns pop, and the campaign’s own message says the pop dogs do not stop. The only catch is that, after July 15 at 12 p.m. ET, there is no confirmed third chance on the calendar.
