The couple tied the knot on July 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, but Lively and Reynolds were left off the guest list.
The timing matters because the wedding was one of the biggest celebrity gatherings of the summer, and Swift’s choices around who got in were watched as closely as the ceremony itself. The guest list did include Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper, Dakota Johnson, Tree Paine and Abigail Anderson, while Machine Gun Kelly, Kelsea Ballerini, Erin Andrews, Eric Stonestreet, Lindsay Schweitzer and Benson Boone were also spotted heading to the event.
Swift and Lively were once close, but that changed in 2025 after Swift was pulled into Lively’s legal battle with Justin Baldoni. In January 2025, Baldoni filed a $400 million lawsuit against Lively, Reynolds and their publicist, and although the case was dismissed in June 2025, the fallout did not disappear with it. On Thursday evening, they were in Lake Placid, New York, supporting their daughter Betty at a horse show, where Betty placed second in the competition. It was a reminder that while one family was cheering from the sidelines, another was sealing a private divide in plain view.
What makes the rupture sharper is that it was not caused by one event alone. Swift had once expected the friendship to recover, but more problems kept piling up after the legal fight dragged her in, and she ultimately chose to keep her wedding circle to people she trusts and who bring her peace. That leaves the simplest reading of the night intact: Swift and Lively are no longer part of each other’s inner circle, and the wedding made that public.
