Justice Sonia Sotomayor disclosed receiving $4,333 in concert tickets from Rimas Entertainment, the record company that represents Bad Bunny, in her annual financial filing released Monday. She said the tickets were for a concert for her and guests while she was on a private trip to Puerto Rico in August 2025.
The filing landed as the financial disclosure forms for eight of the nine justices became available at noon EDT, part of the court’s yearly accounting of gifts, income and outside ties. Sotomayor and Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson were the only justices to report gifts this year, a detail that immediately set Sotomayor’s filing apart from the rest of the court.
The value matters because the forms are designed to flag potential conflicts of interest and ethical compliance, not to give a full picture of a justice’s wealth. Even so, a gift worth more than $4,000 draws attention on its own, especially when it comes from a company linked to one of the biggest concert names in Puerto Rico. Sotomayor also reported $88,100 in income from Penguin Random House.
But the filing leaves one part of the story open. Sotomayor did not identify the performer, even though the tickets came from Bad Bunny’s label. That omission matters because the judge of what a gift means often depends on the setting, and on who the host was. In a September 2025 story, Sotomayor was noted as attending one of Bad Bunny’s Puerto Rico concerts, and Bad Bunny played 31 sold-out shows in San Juan between July and September 2025.
The broader filings also showed that several justices earned money from teaching or publishing in 2025, but none of that blunts the significance of Sotomayor’s disclosure. The next filing that had not yet appeared online Monday was Justice Samuel Alito’s, leaving the day’s public record complete in part, but not fully closed.
