Allina Health System has agreed to a $12.5 million class action settlement that would resolve claims it used pixel tracking on its website in a way that violated consumer privacy rights. The deal covers patients and users who interacted with Allina Health online between Sept. 16, 2018, and May 11, 2026.
The class includes portal users, non-portal bill pay users, non-portal scheduling users and other non-portal patients during that period. Under the settlement, eligible class members can receive a cash payment, with individual payouts tied to a proportional share of the net settlement fund based on how many valid claims are filed.
That is why the case is drawing attention now. The settlement puts a dollar figure on allegations that website tracking tools may have shared sensitive personal and health-related information with third parties, and it does so across a broad group of users tied to Allina Health’s online services. Allina Health is a health care system operating hospitals and clinics throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
Allina Health System has not admitted any wrongdoing in agreeing to the deal, a point that leaves the core dispute intact even as the parties move toward payment. The case, Ahlers, et al. v. Allina Health System, is pending in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, and the settlement administrator is listed as Allina Pixel Settlement c/o Atticus Administration in St. Paul.
For class members, the most important dates are now fixed. Requests for exclusion and objections are due Aug. 10, 2026, claims must be submitted by Sept. 8, 2026, and the final approval hearing is scheduled for Sept. 24, 2026. The settlement can still change if the court does not grant approval, but for now the path to any payment runs through that deadline.
Anyone who believes they fall within the covered period has a clear choice: file a valid claim form or walk away and miss the distribution. The size of each check will depend on how many people step forward, which means the settlement’s final value for any one class member will only become clear after the claims process closes.
