Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios have turned Absolute Batman into a Batman Animated Series, unveiling the project at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Scott Snyder will executive produce and showrun the adaptation, with Nick Dragotta also involved in development.
The announcement gives one of DC’s biggest recent comic launches a fast path from page to screen. Absolute Batman, introduced in late 2024, has sold more than 6 million copies, reached No. 1 through 11 printings and helped make the Absolute line one of the company’s loudest successes. For DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation, the series is now part of a wider push to turn that momentum into more animated projects.
The timing matters because Annecy was the place where the studio partnership laid out several pieces of its next wave at once. Peter Safran and Sam Register were on hand for the presentation, and the slate also included DC’s first anime series, Joker: Laugh Riot, plus a new series centered on Krypto. That made Absolute Batman less a standalone reveal than the anchor of a broader animation strategy that is clearly moving beyond one title.
There is still one piece missing, and it is the one viewers will look for first. The schedule for the Batman Animated Series was not announced, and no network or platform was attached to it. That leaves Snyder’s role and the comic’s sales momentum as the clearest signs of intent, but not yet a date on the calendar or a home on the dial.
That gap matters because the project now has everything except the final route to viewers. Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios have shown they want Absolute Batman in animation, and Snyder’s place at the center suggests they see the comic’s version of Bruce Wayne as more than a one-off experiment. The next real news will be when the series gets a release window and a distributor, because that is when this adaptation stops being an announcement and starts being a show.
